Frequently Asked Questions about HASS House®
HASS HOUSE® is a fire protection software program for hydraulic analysis, design and review of residential sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R. HASS House is available for Windows as well as DOS. The 2.X series is for Windows and the 1.X series is for DOS. Featured in an Operation Life Safety Workshop, HASS House was highlighted as a specialized tool to reduce the volume of paperwork and speed up the design and review process with its quick and accurate analysis procedures.
DATA ENTRY is quick and tailored to the residential sprinkler market. Data can be entered and revised without delay. The system layout is described by nodes (K-factors and elevations) and by pipes (lengths, diameters, and fittings). Special tables allow for quick selection of piping (Pipe Tables) and types of residential sprinklers (Sprinkler Lists). Pipe tables and sprinkler lists can be edited as needed. Pumps, meters, and backflow preventers are entered by changes in pressure.
CALCULATION PROCESSES use the same "engine" as HASS®, widely accepted throughout the fire protection community. Standards for residential sprinklers require adequate flow with the hydraulically most remote one sprinkler operating as well as two-to-four sprinklers operating in the design area. HASS House automatically provides these two required sets of calculations.
RESULTS appear in a clear and concise report format with a water supply graph and a coversheet, ready for your review on the screen before printing. The two sets of calculations are shown side by side on the same sheet of paper, are shown on the same water supply graph, and are summarized on one coversheet.
SPECIAL FEATURES: include a drill size calculator (DRISCAL) that allows a test at the riser to simulate sprinkler flow demands, as well as the NETWORK calculation method (including an automatic network generator) for systems using ½ inch cross-linked polyethylene piping as specified in paragraph 4-4.2 of NFPA 13-D.

OPERATOR REQUIREMENTS: The HASS House user should have an understanding of basic hydraulics, the residential sprinkler concept, and sprinkler terminology as stated in NFPA 13, 13D, and 13R.
